Wall roughness is one of the main parameters affecting laminar-turbulent transition. In this paper, a quantitative way for estimating the Reynolds number as a function of wall roughness is discussed. The Reynolds number, dependent on the value of wall roughness, is then compared with the Reynolds number in the case of ideally smooth walls for the same flow conditions.
